Creative Writing For Adults (in Opicina/ Trieste, northern Italy)
New Creative Writing in English courses start next week (January 19th/20th)!
These courses are suitable for 2 kinds of people:
Mother tongue English speakers who would love the opportunity to start writing creatively in a structured, fun environment, with lots of tips on how to transform personal experience into imagined worlds.
and non-native speakers who would like to improve their written and spoken English but are tired of the same old language courses.
You might also like to explore your creative side in a non-judgmental environment
Tonya Blowers is newly arrived in Trieste and has been teaching creative writing in London for many years – in universities, colleges and schools. She has a PhD in English Literature and has taught the Masters degree in Creative Writing at the University of London with English poet laureate Andrew Motion.
Creative Writing For Adults is an introductory course which will help you kick-start your writing and give you some strategies for writing a little and often.
On this course students are encouraged to write regularly about everyday experiences, to reflect on what is interesting and unique about those experiences and to develop their own writing voice. We look at and practise different forms of life writing (the letter, the diary, the autobiography) and consider some relevant themes (the past and memories; truth and lies; secrets and confessions). The aim of the course is to provide a non-threatening, non-judgemental space in which students’ writing and creativity will flourish.
Students will also be introduced to the elements of fiction (such as character, setting, plot, dialogue) and consider and practise writing in different genres (short fiction, poetry, play writing). There will also be an opportunity to focus more specifically on Life Writing, where students can develop an autobiography or biography, or start to assemble a written project based on real experience.
Each session will have a theme and a flexible format but expect to be inspired to do lots of thinking, writing and reading both in and out of the session (although writing and sharing work is always optional). There will be no less than five and no more then ten participants.
